KELSO SOCCER CLUB MEETING MINUTES October 20, 2009 Meeting called to order: 7:08 pm No minutes from September meeting - we met outside and then went over to watch the Kelso Varsity girls soccer game in the stadium. Present: Nicole Vasquez, Linda Shultz, Phil Dahl, Sarah Dahl, Josh Thompson, Lorla Victoriano PRESIDENT: Josh reports that Manasco fields are holding up well, perhaps due to the dry beginning to our fall season. Youth referees have been much appreciated and it would be great to have more of them. VICE PRESIDENT: Morgan not present; no report. TREASURER: Sarah presented the September treasurer's report and these bills: Qwest $50.99, PUD $37.91, CYSA player insurance $4,562.46, Watkins $211.47, Wildwood Enterprises (port-a-potty) $100.70, Referee fees $1,292.00. MSA to pay bills and approve the report. DIRECTOR OF COACHES: CJ not present; no report. REGISTRAR: Linda reports that there is still $1,323.00 owed in fall 2009 registration fees. MSA to allow only on-line pay by credit card for registration from now on except may pay in cash at the in-person registration times. (No checks allowed). This is too much to be missing out on for the club to continue allowing checks. The amount of missing registration fees was even higher for 2008. Linda also asked if a field map to Manasco could be handed out to coaches in the spring. There have been many problems with no clear U6, U7 or U8 markings on the fields, and coaches want to move their games around when another game is already scheduled for the alternate field. DIRECTOR OF EQUIPMENT: Amber not present; no report. DIRECTOR OF SPONSORS: Lorla reports that we have purchased one sign for Manasco for Columbia Analytical Services. It is real heavy and is being stored in the well house at Manasco until someone gets around to hanging it up. She says that 17 teams (1-U12+ and the rest U11 and below) were sponsored this year, leaving 12 teams that did not have sponsors. She asks that Linda send an email to this fall's coaches asking them if anyone on their team has expressed an interest in sponsoring a team in the future. She has heard plenty of these comments and would like to follow up and send them our information for next season. DIRECTOR OF FIELDS: Phil reports that the mowing, field-lining and mole-hunting continue. He would like to ask for approval next month to purchase a new mower, perhaps even used or a season-ending sale. The belt continually falls off of the current mower and he is tired of it! DIRECTOR OF REFEREES: Jody not present; no report. COMMISSIONER'S REPORT: GU15-19 spring select tryouts will be held Nov. 1 and Nov. 8, 2:00 - 4:00 at 7th Ave. Park. They will play in the Oregon Winter League this year, which has ten games beginning the last weekend in January. CYSA reports that over-age players were found in several cases, and for more than one club, so club registrars are reminded to double-check birthdates of each player so that they are placed on a team of the correct age. The consolodation process was discussed, with a professional hired by WSYSA who came from Seattle to the meeting. CYSA is committed to moving forward with the process, which also involves separating governance from operations, and eliminating duplication of efforts. For example, functions such as registrar, referee assignor, scheduler, and treasurer, may be combined at the association level to free up volunteers at the club level to work on fields, coaches, and their local club activities. A committee made up of one volunteer from each club will be formed to move forward with the businessman - Jan Glick - and his efforts. OLD BUSINESS: Phil has talked with Jim Biwer at the Kelso School District regarding the club's possible use of the school district property in Lexington for soccer fields. He will attend a school board meeting in November with Josh to present the club's request. NEW BUSINESS: Josh would like to offer two youth clinics next summer, perhaps involve two older teams instead of one like this summer. Many parents requested more clinics and more opportunities to get their kids out with the older players. MEETING ADJOURNED: 8:08 pm NEXT MEETING: NOVEMBER 17, 2009. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO FILL THE KELSO SOCCER CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS. PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND THIS NOVEMBER MEETING AND SEE HOW YOU CAN HELP KEEP REC SOCCER GOING FOR KIDS IN KELSO.
